About Me
Working With A Great Dentist

I have always been one of those people who loves to get out into the world and talk with other people, but a few years ago, I realized that I had to do something about my smile. My teeth were yellow and unattractive, and it was really discouraging to see how much different my smile was. I knew that I needed to get my teeth fixed, so I started working with a professional dentist to make things right. Within a few short months, my smile was completely transformed, and I knew that I owed it all to my dental professional. Check out this blog for more information about working with a dentist.

Think Your Significant Other Has Gum Disease?

Harper Hughes

If your spouse has terrible breath, and they haven't been to the dentist in a while, it may be time to get them to see a periodontist. Someone who is brushing on a daily basis and using mouthwash may still have gum disease. You need to talk with them about the importance of oral hygiene, and not spreading bacteria to your mouth. Here are some of the things to think about when you know that your significant other has a gum problem.

Signs of Gum Disease

It may be very easy for you to notice the signs of their gum disease. Here are the signs that may be evident to you:

  • Constant bad breath even after brushing
  • Sore and tender gums
  • Bleeding while brushing
  • Discoloration of the teeth

If you can smell them, you see the blood when they spit, and you are seeing the other signs of gum disease, you want to get them help.

Schedule a Deep Tissue Gum Cleaning

Convince them to schedule a deep tissue gum cleaning from a periodontist. This will give the periodontist a chance to not only clean the deepest tissues around the teeth but also to examine how the gums have deteriorated and how bad the disease is. After the cleaning, they will be able to give their treatment recommendations to try to repair the gum damages and restore their oral health.

Use the Right Products at Home

Gum preservation at home will be important. Invest in oral health products that are designed to detoxify and cleanse the gums, and to keep the mouth clean. If sensitivity is still a problem, you want to find products that don't contain alcohol. With a combination of proper toothpaste and mouth rinse, and a flossing machine like water flosser, it will be easier to maintain their gum condition.

It can be difficult to tell someone that they have an oral hygiene problem and that it bothers you, but you don't want them to have severe damage that needs surgery and tissue grafting later on in life. Instead, be honest about the problem you see that they have and talk with them about periodontal disease and the long term side-effects of this condition. From there, you can convince them to set up an appointment so they can get the tissue cleaned. You should help them get an evaluation of the progression of the disease from a gum expert as well.
