About Me
Working With A Great Dentist

I have always been one of those people who loves to get out into the world and talk with other people, but a few years ago, I realized that I had to do something about my smile. My teeth were yellow and unattractive, and it was really discouraging to see how much different my smile was. I knew that I needed to get my teeth fixed, so I started working with a professional dentist to make things right. Within a few short months, my smile was completely transformed, and I knew that I owed it all to my dental professional. Check out this blog for more information about working with a dentist.

Common Emergency Dental Problems That Should Be Treated Immediately

Harper Hughes

When you least expect it, the need for emergency dental care may arise. If a person suffers sudden trauma to the face, mouth or teeth, it is very important to seek immediate dental care. Otherwise, there is a risk that the teeth or gums may be damaged permanently. These are some emergency dental problems that should be treated by a dentist as soon as possible.

Cracked or Broken Teeth

If a tooth becomes cracked or broken, it may or may not result in immediate pain. This normally occurs if there has been trauma to the mouth or teeth, but can also happen if the person has the habit of grinding their teeth.

If the crack reaches down into the nerves, it can cause the roots of the tooth to die and become detached from the gums. Therefore, it is extremely important to seek emergency dental care at the first sign of a cracked or broken tooth. With the proper dental care, it is likely that the crack can be repaired so tooth loss can be prevented.

Loose or Dislodged Teeth

A tooth can loosen or become dislodged from the gums due to trauma or decay. However, if the tooth remains in the mouth and is still connected to the blood vessels and nerves, it may be possible to save the tooth with the proper emergency dental care.

Loosened or dislodged teeth often result in mild to severe pain and there may also be bleeding. When this occurs, you should use a cold, damp cloth to hold the tooth in place and help stop the bleeding. Contact a dentist right away and seek emergency dental care as quickly as possible.

Knocked Out Teeth

Getting a tooth knocked out usually only occurs due to severe trauma to the mouth. This is often very painful and there may be excessive bleeding as well. The tooth should be rinsed in warm water, but be careful not to touch the roots of the tooth while handling it. Place it back in the gum socket and go to the emergency dentist immediately.

Even if a tooth is completely knocked out of the gum socket, it is still possible to reattach it to the gums. However, this must be done within a very short period of time after the trauma occurs. If emergency dental care is received immediately, the dentist may be able to put the tooth back in place so that the gum tissues will grow to support the tooth once again.

If a filling or crown is lost, you should also receive emergency dentistry. Losing a filling or crown usually means that the tooth underneath is severely decayed. However, getting emergency dental care to reinsert or replace the filling or crown can prevent the tooth from decaying further and causing a serious infection to develop in the gums.
